COVIDIEN Valleylab FT10 Electrosurgical Unit
Main capabilities
- Monopolar electrosurgery — cutting and coagulation using an active electrode and patient return electrode.
- Bipolar electrosurgery — energy delivered between the jaws/electrodes of a bipolar instrument.
- LigaSure vessel sealing — supports compatible LigaSure instruments for vessel sealing and tissue fusion.
- Bipolar resection applications.
- 7-inch LCD touchscreen for selecting and adjusting surgical-energy settings.
- Automatic recognition of compatible coded instruments/handpieces.
- REM (Return Electrode Monitoring) monitors patient-return electrode contact during monopolar use.
- Auto Bipolar can automatically activate bipolar energy with compatible setups.

Energy modes
The FT10 provides different energy modes depending on the connected instrument and application, including CUT, COAG, PURE, FULG, bipolar and LigaSure-related modes. The system can configure available controls based on the connected instrument.
Safety features
A major feature is REM (Return Electrode Monitoring). The system monitors the return-electrode circuit and can disable RF output when an unsafe contact condition is detected. The FT10 documentation also contains extensive warnings concerning burns, fire/explosion hazards, implanted electronic devices, laparoscopic procedures, bipolar procedures, and LigaSure use.
Typical applications
The FT10 can be used as an energy platform in many surgical specialties, including:
- General surgery
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Gynecologic surgery
- Urologic surgery
- ENT surgery
- Orthopedic procedures
- Thoracic surgery
- Other procedures requiring monopolar, bipolar or vessel-sealing energy
Important: This is a professional medical device. Actual settings, accessories, electrode placement and activation technique must follow the applicable FT10 user/service documentation and the specific surgical procedure; the manufacturer specifies use by appropriately trained medical professionals.
